Role Overview:

We are seeking a passionate, forward-thinking, and results-driven Intermediate to Senior Urban Planner to join our innovative and high-impact team! In this pivotal role, you’ll spearhead transformative municipal planning projects with a focus on housing solutions and sustainable growth strategies that shape the future of Canadian communities. As a thought leader, you’ll help municipalities unlock the potential of land use, overcome complex zoning challenges, and drive meaningful community engagement. You’ll also inspire and mentor junior planners while collaborating with diverse, cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge, comprehensive planning solutions. Key Responsibilities (BuildingIN):

  • Lead and manage urban planning projects focused on low-rise multi-unit infill housing and land use optimization in municipalities across Canada

  • Working to support planning applications for new housing

  • Collaborate with municipal leaders, developers, and key community members to assess and implement effective land use strategies.

  • Provide expertise in zoning, infrastructure, and sustainable urban design to ensure alignment with local needs and growth projections.

  • Develop comprehensive planning documents, reports, and presentations for municipal clients and team members.

  • Oversee and guide junior planners, offering mentorship and support in the execution of planning tasks.

  • Research urban development trends, housing policies, and planning best practices to inform strategies and recommendations.

  • Work closely with the Project Manager to manage timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within scope.

  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans to expand BuildignIN’s impact on a national scale.

Other Responsibilities

  • · Approval applications and planning rationales for development projects.

​

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in urban planning, with a focus on land use, zoning, and housing development.

  • Strong knowledge of municipal planning processes, land use regulations, and sustainable development practices.

  • Experience working directly with municipalities, key community members, and government agencies.

  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex planning concepts.

  • Knowledge of GIS, urban design, and housing policy is a plus.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and basic AutoCAD.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, with strong organizational skills.

  • Bonus: GIS knowledge, knowledge of social media management, video editing skills, proficiency in French.

Junior GIS Analyst​

Role Overview:

As a Junior GIS Analyst, you will play a crucial role in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic data to support decision-making processes, primarily working with land use and parcel fabric data. Your expertise will drive the development and implementation of GIS strategies and solutions, helping to address complex spatial challenges and support our clients’ goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and enhancing GIS databases and applications.

  • Conduct spatial analysis to support land use planning, research and project requirements.

  • Assist in designing and producing detailed maps, visualizations, and reports.

  • Perform data quality checks and ensure the accuracy and integrity of GIS data.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify GIS needs and provide technical solutions.

  • Assist in the development of GIS methodologies and best practices.

  • Stay current with advancements in GIS technology and incorporate new techniques into workflow.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Proven experience (typically 1-3 years) in GIS analysis, including proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ESRI products, ArcGIS, QGIS).

  • Strong understanding of spatial data models, cartography, and spatial analysis techniques.

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL for GIS applications.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information to non technical parties.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with web mapping, developing interactive data visualizations, and GIS server technologies.
